Cullen Valley Mine

Coalpac acquired the assets of the Lithgow Coal Company in February 2008. These assets include the Cullen Valley Mine located in the Western Coalfield of New South Wales, Australia. The mine is immediately adjacent to the Baal Bone Colliery to the East and the Invincible Colliery to the South and is approximately 5km by road from the Mt. Piper coal fired power station.

The mine extracts the Illawarra coal measures from outcropping areas and the current mining area consists of a central hill with the production area proceeding around the hill in a clockwise direction, mining into the hill to the economic limit of extraction. The typical maximum strip ratio is 5 bcm of waste to 1 tonne of coal; however this is increased in some areas depending on the quality of coal to be mined.

The mine has development consent to produce up to 1 Mtpa, however historical production has been around 700,000 tonnes per annum. The development consent allows for 24 hour, 7 day operation. The mine currently produces on day shift only on 5 or 6 days per week.
